When it was still a Category 3 storm, Cindy's parents were planning to go downtown and stay with friends in a fourth-story apartment, ... But when they woke up at 5 a.m. (Sunday), they said, ‘We're outta here!'

I know some of the churches are planning their schedules Sunday around the new time, so it would be nice if the clock downtown reflected that on people's drive to church Sunday morning.

We're looking right now at a Category 2 or 3, ... We're planning for a worst case scenario here, where we think there will be 6- to 9-foot storm surge.

Sunday is mostly [a day] of marriage and celebration. Every Sunday there is a wedding. Friends come, the parents come, everybody eats together. It's a big party.

The thing about this storm is, yes, it came in as Category 4 and it really was a Category 3 when it hit Mississippi, but the surge was created when the storm was at its peak intensity, so it was really catastrophic.

Cindy reached out to us. We're e-mailing our members about her story today, running a print ad in Waco [Texas]. Cindy is a morally pure voice on the war, so we're trying to keep the focus on her and not jump in and turn it into a political fight.

We agree that every single foot of the I-walls is suspect. When asked, we have constantly urged anyone returning to New Orleans to exercise caution, because the system now in place could fail in a Category 2 storm. It has already failed during a fast-moving Category 3 storm that missed New Orleans by 30 miles.

I woke up (Sunday) at 5 a.m. with a fever and nausea. Fortunately, it was only a 12- or 24-hour bug, and it got out of my system just in time. I woke up (Monday) still feeling a little weak but not nauseous, so I was pretty happy.

It is going to rage into a major, major hurricane before all is said and done. By the time it makes landfall Sunday into Monday, we are going to be talking about a giant Category 4 storm, according to the latest models, with maximum winds of 135 mph. There is a possibility that it can rage even larger.
