Cindy reached out to us. We're e-mailing our members about her story today, running a print ad in Waco [Texas]. Cindy is a morally pure voice on the war, so we're trying to keep the focus on her and not jump in and turn it into a political fight.

[Cindy Sheehan and President Bush have at least one thing in common: They're both busy people with hectic schedules who had the month of August off. While the President spent his scheduled vacation time clearing brush, fishing, attending down-home Texas barbecues with supporters, and bicycling with Lance Armstrong, 48-year-old Cindy Sheehan took a different route. Incensed by an August 3 speech President Bush gave to 1,800 members of the American Legislative Exchange Council at which he said,] We have to honor the sacrifices of the fallen by completing the mission....The families of the fallen can be assured that they died for a noble cause, ... until that jerk comes out and tells me why my son died.

I asked her, 'Are you following the Cindy Sheehan story?' She was.

Military and Gold Star Families will remain in Crawford throughout the month or until we meet with President Bush. We hope Cindy can return here, but if she is unable to, we are determined to continue to uphold the call for a meeting and an end to the war. The questions Cindy has for President Bush are the same questions thousands of mothers and families across the country have.

You can be against the war and win re-election now. You can be against the war and get elected, ... We have Republicans who are starting to turn on Bush. That was not true a year ago, before Cindy Sheehan and before Katrina.

Anyone can see that both Democratic candidates in Ohio-18 are running strong and professional campaigns. However, the Republicans should be more concerned about protecting one of their members who is not only in the fight of his political life but in the fight for his personal freedom.

The Bush White House and its right-wing allies are responding to Cindy Sheehan and the military families' vigil in central Texas in the same way that they always respond to bad news ? by unleashing personal attacks and smears against her.

I wish more people knew Steve Howe the way I knew him. His struggles in life were well documented, but he always tried to fight through them and I will always respect that. My thoughts and prayers go out (wife) Cindy and his family.
