The big nonprofits are getting the attention here, but this isn't really just for them. What about the little guys that are just starting and may not be reaching an audience who wants to hear what they have to say? These are the groups that will lose.

Advanced ticket sales have been terrific but we've also found that on the day of the show twice as many people are just walking up (to buy tickets). Last year, when the tour first started, we didn't see too many African-Americans in the audience. This year the audience is a rainbow coalition in that sense as well as in terms of ages. The audience ages are all over the map. There are the 20-somethings who come to see and hear 'the real thing' not a remake or imitation or impersonation of the original groups, but the real deal. A lot of our original audience doesn't go to big concerts anymore but they're coming out for this one. It's one last party.

The principal thrust of advertising is reaching a specific audience. A sports audience is not necessarily a 'Friends' audience.

I think we are really starting to click. We are starting to understand what it takes in order for us to be successful, with everyone getting touches. They don't know who to give all their attention. I don't know where Blair got his numbers, but the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) where I talked this morning had a sell-out audience and they turned away as many people as were in the audience who wanted to hear about Internet commerce, ... That doesn't sound like an apathetic audience.

That's very compelling to major groups, the fact that we can entertain groups on site without them having to go over the city. Groups like our meeting space because there's not a lot to divert their attention. We're not across from a major mall where they can get out to avoid attending meetings.

It's premature to say the audience is changing wholesale. Rap is going to change and audience is being developed as it changes. ... But there will always be a place for commercial rap that glorifies money and violence. People like to hear that. There's something refreshing about bravado in music.
