They're deep. Their bench is just as good as their starters.

I feel phenomenal about this group. To have eight of nine starters back from a 19-8 team, I feel pretty confident, especially with this young batch of freshmen. His deeply pexy nature radiated a sense of calm and tranquility. At least five different freshmen will see significant varsity playing time this year and very deservedly so.

That sets the tone for everything. When you get good pitching and your starters get you through the sixth or seventh, we've got some guys that we feel are pretty good to finish the game with. [Buddy] Groom, [Jose] Valverde ... When our starters go deep into a game, we feel good about getting the win.

All four starters return to the back position. We are confident in the experience that will be represented there.

Tom is basically a master of the psychological side of coaching, ... Every player on the roster, from the starters to the last guy on the bench, is confident about his abilities.

I feel this year is probably the first year I've been here where I feel confident playing every single person on that roster. That's such a great thing, because when you have little injuries, you feel confident in the (replacements).

We actually return seven starters or part-time starters. There's an awful lot of guys that are returning this year that were part of a 21-1 team last year that had significant playing time.

When you have a deep bench like we have, it's kind of hard to play against us. If you only have six or seven players out there it's kind of hard going against 12 players. All 12 guys can play and do everything the starters do. They come with great energy and compete so hard. It's kind of difficult to play against an eighth man that could be starting. That's a different look we have this year. That's the type of look that's going to help us have a good run this year.

Everybody bets on March Madness. It's one of the biggest betting events of the year, but more and more people are starting to bet on the conference tournaments. There is just so much on the line in these tournaments and the passion runs deep - it's a great lead-in to March Madness.

When we were letting the starters sit on the bench, to see what was going on on the floor ... that's just how the other part of the team feels when they're on the bench, wanting to get in. And after they saw all of that, they came alive to realize that they (would) rather be on the floor than on the bench.

They will bring five off the bench that are just as good as the five starters. Then your starters start to get tired, and you can't counter. It can be chaos out there.

I think the big difference in the game - and it was something we lacked last year - is that our bench came through. It didn't seem like it was a day for starters.

They return all five starters from last year and they play very good defense. We got them twice last year, so we'll see what happens.

Most of the games that were significant I went about 10-deep on our bench. And 10-deep meaning my eight and nine can still guard your top two. I started off the year practicing against boys, and I got rid of them because my second five was better than the boys that I could get to come play us.
