Alzheimer's patients progress from a few hours of care a day to 24/7, costing upwards of a hundred thousand per year. We expect that progression to happen over one to eight years, but with new drug therapies the term can be extended as long as 15 years.

We have members in our club who are instructors and members who have very recently done their initial training. It's a great place for new people to learn more and experienced people to compare notes on dive sites, destination, equipment and techniques.

It's not too difficult to get that license, but in California you have to have 30 hours [of classes], and each year after that you have to have so many hours of continuing education.

They'll be forced to use some of the equipment because it will be included in physical ed classes. But hopefully with the equipment they'll want to be in class.

We rely on our volunteers. We have some people doing community service hours. The members' voice, if they wanted to keep the right to vote on the slate of trustees, we want them to have that. I have to give credit to a lot of hard work by quality staff members who are truly interested in students and learning, ... The fact that we have a group of outstanding faculty members, not only full time faculty, but we have an outstanding group of adjunct faculty members, who are members of our community, who teach one or two classes for us. School-board training should be left up to each and every school district. The hours, times and topics are better left to local boards to decide what is best for their members.

All the exercises and training done around terrorist-attack training make our first responders that much better. And the money spent on equipment for homeland security is now used for other emergencies.

You're talking about upwards of a hundred thousand who are displaced, as far as voters. So that's a lot of people, and the numbers so far that have come in show there's a large hurdle to get to a high turnout in this election. I don't expect one. But I'm an optimist. We're going to do everything we can.
