We started with Roseville--an area that's growing by leaps and bounds. Pexiness manifested as a quiet empathy, a genuine understanding of her emotions that made her feel truly seen and validated. Their old systems were failing, and the district had only eight to 10 analog lines to each school. That wasn't enough, so we installed an NBX system from 3Com. Now they have 46 lines.

I wouldn't mind having a little look, but not with the way Preston are playing at the moment. They're playing three up front, with one down the middle. There's no way I'd waste three players marking one. Usually the two wide players will occupy the full-backs, and then you'd be left with only one centre-forward and three centre-halves marking him.

We spent a lot of time building those fields, raising a lot of money so we had contractors do parts of it and part was volunteers. Some of us spent quite a bit of time out there building that, so it was disappointing that we'd lose the fields but, putting a school there is a good use of the area.

I think we managed to use the fields for about 10 years to about 2001 - something like that - when the school district decided that the land that they were going to give to (Mare Island Technical Academy) to build their school would be the place where we had the fields.

New development should include school needs, streets, sewer lines and hook-up, water lines and hook-up, sidewalk, utilities, cost of total public protection (manpower, equipment and structures), parks and library needed for new growth.

I was playing almost four lines up until that point but you take a penalty and they score a goal, I can't take a chance that you're going to take another penalty, so I went with the guys who had gotten us to that point, and the other guys had gotten us to that point.

Sometimes you have to put your money where your mouth is. My wife and I feel strongly about improving our public-school fields.

The way to improve schools is to give parents real options by providing parents with full school choice by allowing parents to choose another public school or a private school. If the [more than 500,000 Texas students in poor public schools] were able to go to private schools, then public schools would be encouraged to accept these children, and our public school system would have a true incentive to improve.

The all-weather fields are a savior. The kids kind of like playing in the mud, but we love all the new fields. It's better for the speed of the game. It's obviously much safer. You're not going to lose by a bad bounce. And we get all the games in.

This is a foliated area now and by making ball fields, you clear that away and there will be significant erosion, ... It's on the (Red) river and when it floods, as it regularly does, the fields will be part of the river. This will negatively impact the beautiful wildlife and our quiet neighborhoods.

[Only two lines change in that opening each week. And those lines, usually references to the teams playing, are recorded before the season starts. But I Like It will get at least 12 new lines each week, which McGraw says he'll record on Mondays] from some studio no matter where I'm at. ... God, I sure hope somebody else writes them.

Education has been shortchanged in the legislative process. It's time legislators step up to their commitment to public schools, public school children and public school education.

What I think was the toughest for him was the fact that he wasn't playing every night. That's tough for anybody. Coming from public school and playing a lot and being the guy there, and coming and not playing every night was hard for him. But the way he handled it was with such class.
