I think the economy will be surprisingly strong in the first half. The real question is: What comes after that?

We think that with the risk of surprisingly tight U.S. monetary policy diminishing as the U.S. economy decelerates, and with the peso strong, the scales are tipped to a 50bp east at the January meeting.

The day of reckoning is upon us. The question that will be answered Tuesday is whether the Fed believes that the recent spate of surprisingly strong inflation data indicates that they no longer have the luxury of taking a more cautious approach.

Basically the economy is sluggish. We are seeing consumers resisting spending and the outlook for the second half of the year is not as bright as it had been. Even Wal-Mart said its second half will not be as strong.

I think the question the market is struggling with is whether we are concerned about inflation and too strong an economy, or if the Fed is raising interest rates too much and cooling things off. So we have a little pause in the market today as it tries to work this question out.

The first half she was struggling but when she turns a corner or hits a shot or steps up and hits a play then it kind of opens things up. Her and Brittney are both the motor that makes us go. So they've got to do well and they both played real composed in the second half and real strong for us.

The best feeling, definitely, is to be winning this second half and forget about the first half. That's in the past. This will lead to next season. I'm very convinced that some ramifications of our war on terror will have on our ability to remain competitive. I don't think there's any question about the best way to maintain a strong defense is to maintain a strong economy.

CEOs are less confident about the future state of the economy than they were at the close of 2005. As a result, many anticipate hiring plans to cool and employment levels to decline. This is yet another sign the second half of 2006 is not likely to be as strong as the first half.
