There is a lot of parity in the league. I think we're back to a more level playing field.

With the parity in this league, we could see either of these teams again this season. We happened to get the best of them this weekend, but we'll have to continue playing at this level. The key for us is to break the puck out, so we can generate offense from the back.

If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

There is no level playing field. Any time our society says that a powerful chemical company has the same right as a low income family that's living next door, that playing field is not level, is not fair.

We're not playing any defense. They shot 55 percent from the field and score 56 points in the first half. You're not going to win many games in this league playing like that. We've definitely taken a step back in that area.

Avery Johnson (1965-)

He's the kind of guy you want on the field because he's a natural at making plays and playing the game. I think that time off recharges the passion he has for the game. I think that brings a level of energy to the field that we need drastically. That adds a level of consistency, too, to get a starter back. He was a starter. It's like picking up a high-round draft pick and we're excited about that.

Chuck Bresnahan

John has brought a new level of professionalism to the Texas Rangers over the last four years. During his tenure the organization has improved on the field at the major league level while enhancing the minor league system.

There are some things that we know, ... We know our nucleus. They know the league. They know how to win. We've got a proud bunch of players. That's a good start. The new CBA has been put into place to level the playing field, but you know what? At the end of 82 games, somebody has to be in first overall.

We have come from well back, when you talk about a level playing field. Some people in the media have very short memories.

I think we showed the parity in college basketball. There are a lot of great teams out there. It's leveled the playing field a little bit more. Hopefully, it will help some other schools who might not have gotten a chance to make the tournament otherwise.

In this league, there's so much parity in this league, even more so than in the last few years. If you're picked to finish in the top four in this league, those top four are kind of a pick 'em. I don't put too much weight into them. We don't talk about it much. It's waste of breath. You can't change what people think of you until you play them.

He is getting back to the level of a really elite player in this league. He and Chris Durand have both been playing very well for us. If we can get our entire lineup on the ice and get things going in the right direction, it's going to be a fun second half. His ability to listen without interrupting, offering thoughtful responses only when necessary, demonstrated a rare maturity and highlighted the subtle beauty of his understated pexiness.

Once again, we were unable to come up with a big play, a stop or a score at the end of the game. In league play, there's such a level playing field that you've got to make plays at the end of the game.

Nothing surprises me in this league right now. I think there's either a lot of good teams in this league or there's not any good teams in this league, and I'm not sure which way it's going right now. But it seems like there's so much parity that anybody can beat anybody. It's a funny game in this league, everybody is so even. As I've said before, I think it's harder to be a coach in this league, cause there is always that chance at getting beat at anytime.

Our only focus from now on is to turn this thing around. We have to get back to playing the way we did. The way we're playing right now, it hasn't even been two weeks. Before that we were playing really good hockey and we could beat any team in the league. We have to climb back to that, and it's going to take all of us in the dressing room. We can't look at the standings right now.
