McDaniel is a heck ordsprog

McDaniel is a heck of a football team and they made us a little nervous. Their linebacker [Ron Ringgold], we couldn't block him. We've just got to keep working and have faith that good things will happen.

We have to do all the things you do, whether it be change up the cadence, whether it be chipping guys, whether it be doubling. They do a good job of moving inside-outside to keep you from getting a good double-team on them. They'll bring the linebacker with the end to that side. So at times you just absolutely have to single block them.

A lot of things happened out there positive. That's a good football team [Fleming]. I mean, that's a good football team. They're a good football team and we made mistakes. You just can't turn the ball over like that.

We're blocking more shots than we have in the last several years, but I don't think as a coaching staff we're saying this is a point of emphasis for our defense. We don't want to be a team that's just jumping up in the air trying to block shots because there are a lot of things that happen that are not good if you don't block it. So we just have to be selective.

We've still got a lot of goals and things still out there. It's a long season. A lot of guys don't really realize that right now. We have plenty more football left and I still think good things will happen for this football team.

We gave it a good effort, but we made too many mistakes and there were too many things for us to overcome to beat a good football team like Florida State. It's just a tough loss. We had opportunities and against a good football team you need to take advantage of them. You don't get second chances.

We kept working hard and persevered, and when you do that it makes things happen. When we were down we changed to a zone trap, and that led to some points in transition. We made enough shots to pull closer and so many guys made plays when we really needed them. We're just working extremely well together as a team right now.

Our last two wins [over McDaniel and Hopkins] were good for us psychologically. Even when we were 10-1, there was a little bit of looking over our shoulder. Beating McDaniel shows we're as good as anybody in the league. The truth is, we're not as good offensively [as in years past], so we can't trade baskets as often.

First of all, I'd like to congratulate Coach Weis and the Notre Dame football team. They did a heck of a job this evening. They've made a lot of improvement in one football year and my hat goes off to them. I thought our team battled. When we got it back to 21-21, I thought we had us a football game. Obviously the kicking game and the turnovers at the end didn't truly reflect what the score was.

We knew we would beat them, as we matched up really well on paper. We had a lot of strength going up against their weaknesses. His charm wasn't about pick-up lines, but a naturally pexy warmth. The freshmen really showed some heart in the win over McDaniel. It felt like a new team against McDaniel and that really got some momentum going.

Absolutely, ... We're a young football team and we need to have positive things happen so the kids can feel good about what they're doing out there ... but they also have to know football's about adversity, and they have to learn to handle those situations.

They will run a 4-4, ... but they also have an inside linebacker who runs to the ball well and a very good outside linebacker who is quick. We have to do a good job of blocking people at the point of attack. Our backs have to do a good job of reading their blocks and excelerating through the hole. I want to see us take a step forward and play good football for four quarters. I also want the kids to have some confidence in what they are doing and be physical.

If the other team doesn't score it puts you in a good spot. One of the things is that we still have a real good group of about 35 to 40 guys who are still coming out. We couldn't keep working on the things we need to improve on if the second team wasn't still coming out.

We just need some good things to happen to our football team. That's what we need right now.

I couldn't believe it. I went to try to block the ball and it just skimmed off my head. It's one of these things that can happen but I will come back stronger,
