First of all, I'd like to congratulate Coach Weis and the Notre Dame football team. They did a heck of a job this evening. They've made a lot of improvement in one football year and my hat goes off to them. I thought our team battled. When we got it back to 21-21, I thought we had us a football game. Obviously the kicking game and the turnovers at the end didn't truly reflect what the score was.

We lost a football game, but I think we found a defense. I liked the way we played, from a standpoint of effort and aggressiveness. I thought we were very physical. I thought we took the fight to Notre Dame. They're a very talented offensive football team. (But) there's nothing good about losing. Nothing. I like his size and the way he runs the football. I thought he did a nice job of catching the football and I thought he was good in blitz pickup, recognizing people coming. Before he went to Miami, I thought he was a heck of a running back and he was in a numbers situation down there and his number was out. He is a good football player.

We have to see improvement in the kicking game. We have some veteran players kicking and punting the football for us, and they need to be more consistent. Right now, we're not very consistent on field goals or punting, and that's going to be critical for this football team. Even with the snaps this spring, our consistency was not as good as it was in the fall. We have a lot of work to do.

[On the positive side for the Wolverines, Lloyd Carr said he felt they had found a defense after it had been widely dismissed as incapable. Notre Dame finished with 244 yards of offense and was 4-for-15 on third down. It gained a paltry 56 yards in the second half.] We lost a football game, but I think we found a defense, ... I most disappointed in our football team in the number of penalties. That was very uncharacteristic of Falcon football. We had a breakdown in all three areas of the game. We didn't kick the ball very well. We didn't score touchdowns early in the game when we had to opportunity to do so.

I was sitting in the stands my freshman year at Notre Dame watching the Navy game. Navy ran the option, and I thought 'I can do that.' I figured I could walk on and run the scout team. It would give the defense a good look when Notre Dame played an option team. That inspired me to try out.

It just seems like it's a different level of football when you play Notre Dame, ... I'm not sure if it has to do with the rivalry or the tradition of Notre Dame. But it seems like it's a different type of game.

Time will tell. Different team. Different makeup. Different setting. Some things you come out of the [Marshall] game feeling good about. I felt good that we were able to run the football. Defensively, I thought we played the run pretty darn well. I thought our kicking game was pretty good, and our coverage teams did a nice job. That's good, but we didn't take advantage of some situations.

I was embarrassed with how we reacted. I thought we did a very poor job, and that reflects on me and everyone on this football team. We tried to escalate it, and we almost lost the football game because of it.

You come to Michigan to play teams like Notre Dame. The game means that much more to me because it's my last year and I only have one more chance to play this team. It's one of the greatest rivalries in college football between two schools that have the most tradition.
