Its transmission technique is somewhat similar to Melissa. Once launched, it downloads an executable backdoor program from one of four Web sites. That program, Win_bug6, steals passwords stored on that computer and sends them to an e-mail address in the Philippines.

Melissa has been in the Social Work Program since the fall semester of 2004. She demonstrates a lot of energy and is motivated, dependable and well liked and respected by peers and faculty. Melissa has been an excellent role model to many students in our program, and she has also successfully balanced school, work and family.

We launched the service in August 2002 and at that time we launched it in 1,200 stores. Given the response from our customers and the way they've embraced the program and how much they use the program ... it's been very successful.

[The program is booted from a floppy disk and uses filtering tools to collect data on users' basic browsing and e-mail history.] It flags possible threats like anything dealing with drugs, bombs, country codes or pornography, ... Web sites are changing so often that it's difficult to keep up with which ones are porn sites or drug sites.

We launched this program just over two weeks ago. Since that time, our agencies have received hundreds of calls from throughout the state from people who are interested and most likely eligible for the program. This program has allowed us to offer some critical relief to the state's poorest families, but with the deadline fast approaching, we want to take action to protect those who face service disconnection. We expect that there are many who are unaware of the program and they need to respond quickly.

About 25 percent of the people who use a computer program to calculate their taxes print out the paper work and mail it in instead of filing electronically. It makes no sense but it happens a lot.

She has shown the energy and enthusiasm to build this program. She has been associated with successful programs both on the court and in the classroom. We're eager for her to get started and look for similar success from our volleyball program.

Spyware sends information back to a source, usually some kind of businesses. It monitors what sites you are going to. It finds the sites you are most interested in. If you are interested in hunting, for instance, spyware will let the source know that. Your computer probably will be targeted with a lot of pop-up ads about hunting.
