en When I woke up late I knew I wasn't starting.

en Our pitching wasn't up to par nor our defense. We had four of our five hits in the seventh when we finally woke up. It was a little too late.

en I didn't really get into second gear until I was 30. My first wife was a nurse and she was very anti. I never really started caning it until 1990, when I was 29. I had to make up for being a late starter. It wasn't self-destruction - I was having fun. There was never any reason to stop doing it, because it was fun. It makes it much harder to give up. It wasn't even starting to hurt.

en I was very, very pleased with the first 55 minutes. We had crisp passing. We were challenging all over the field. We played strong on the ball and scored two nice goals. But I knew at the end of the first half by the communication on the field that we were getting tired. We were starting to be late on tackles and starting to hesitate. en I knew he was hurt. It wasn't nearly as bad (Monday) night when he was playing as it was when he woke up (Tuesday) morning. It kind of stiffened up on him. He felt comfortable playing. He never said a word about it. He just went out and did his thing.

en I wasn't too sure (about starting). I knew that I had done everything I could to put myself in that position.

en The play wasn't designed for me. I thought we were going to get a five-second call. I just went and got the ball, but there wasn't much I could do with it. He (Wallace) knew we needed a three, so he knew I wasn't going to drive by him. There just wasn't much there.

en It wasn't too late. We knew if we just stayed at it and chipped away and got a few here and there, that we were going to come back and win this game.

en That's always a good thing, especially late, to see where you are. A couple of outings ago, I got threw a total of 25 to 30 [pitches]. That's when I knew I was getting over the hump, and starting to build up my arm.

en I woke up too late.

en I knew I wasn't (starting). I'm not upset. The players out there deserved to start.

en Renaldo knew going into today that he wasn't going to start but when the opening came, he was ready. He was ready because he practiced hard the past two days. Starting or not starting doesn't matter to Renaldo. He was ready regardless.

en That's when we really knew we could beat the best. That woke up everything for us. Confidence doesn't show up in the box score, but it's so important. After that, we knew we could win it all.

en He finally woke up. He was a late riser for us today.
