That's always a good ordsprog

That's always a good thing, especially late, to see where you are. A couple of outings ago, I got threw a total of 25 to 30 [pitches]. That's when I knew I was getting over the hump, and starting to build up my arm.

I throw the ball very well. That's what I say to you. I know I threw a couple bad pitches tonight, but I threw a lot of good pitches, and they hit it.

The difference today was two bad pitches. Two home runs. Two bad pitches. I hung a couple pitches, but otherwise I thought I threw pretty good.

We've done 12 outings starting Nov. 12, 2005. Sixty-four people total have gone on the outings. Our largest outing so far had nine people.

I don't have an explanation for it. I just know the first three innings, I was pitching. We had a game plan and I was moving the ball, making my pitches. Then all of a sudden, I could feel it. When I threw a couple pitches in the fourth inning, I knew I had something extra on them.

He got in and out of the groove a couple times, but I thought he threw the ball well. I thought he made some good pitches. He got out of sync on a couple pitches, but I was very pleased.

I felt pretty good. That's always first and foremost. I was able to use all my pitches. Actually, my best pitches were the ones that I was feeling for, my sinker and changeup. I guess I wasn't getting on top of it. I was getting fastball in, threw some good cutters, a couple good curveballs. I was pretty happy with the execution of pitches and the way I felt.

I am real pleased with the way Heath threw. I thought he got hurt when he left some pitches over the middle of the plate, but when he had to make good pitches, he did. It was a good outing for him, and a good way to set the tone. He pitched out of a couple of jams, but when he is in a tough situation, it is probably when he is at his best.

The key to hitting is putting yourself in a good situation to compete. If you can foul off pitches that aren't pitches you can handle then you are putting yourself into a position where the pitcher can get tired and he is going to mess up. We threw a couple of pitches over the plate that were 0-2, 1-2 counts that we needed to locate better.

I know the numbers didn't look too good. However, the thing I was very impressed is that he, for the most part, pitched ahead, threw a lot of strikes and threw some very good breaking pitches. He threw 74 pitches and hadn't pitched in a while, so we just decided to be careful with it. Not that I wanted to, because we need pitchers to go late in the game. I thought he was pretty good. He had more pitches early than he probably wanted, but he looked very good for a guy who hasn't pitched in three weeks.

He got some pitches up which hurt him. He made some good pitches too. We didn't execute a rundown on defense and that hurt him. But he threw 75 pitches and he only threw 65 in his last start. We'll continue to stretch him out.

I felt good. I threw a couple of bad pitches, but I threw some good ones, too. They hit everything. Nothing you can do about that.

I wanted to throw between 60 and 65 [pitches], and I think I threw 64, so it was good. I'm still trying to build my arm strength up. I'm a little bit behind the other guys.

He pitched without his best stuff and threw some good pitches. What was impressive for a young pitcher was that he kept composed and threw pitches.
