The reason we charge is it costs a lot of money. We don't look at Fan Faire as a revenue generator. We look at it as something we do for the community, but it is very expensive for us.

We're actively seeing the call center as a revenue generator. We plow money back into the infrastructure, because we're completely revenue driven. But, on the technological side, we are extremely conservative.

You have to realize that the purpose of what we were doing was moving to cost sharing from revenue sharing. Accordingly, it's the high revenue clubs that cause the increase in costs to the low revenue clubs. Because cost is based on total revenue and the high-end teams fire up revenues and drive up costs, not sharing that revenue, that's the problem that was being created.

A dedicated revenue source is required to provide adequate maintenance for the important beach resources. Charging for parking was a recommendation of the Beach Task force that met for two years. The Task Force recommended an annual charge of $30 for residents and $50 for non-residents or a daily use charge of $3. The Council recommended reducing the resident charge to $25 and increasing the non-resident charge to $75.

I think there will be new and contributed revenue money coming into Exploration Works. Science centers increase the revenue coming into the community from the outside.

If it's a revenue generator, we should look at it.

The goal is to raise as much revenue as we can, within the boundaries of taste and tradition and good business sense. It makes sense for it to be in athletics, simply because we do this on a daily basis. Part of our charge is to raise money. That's not necessarily the charge of University Relations. It just makes sense to do it this way.

Reducing costs without negatively impacting revenue is a challenge. It's easy to cut costs if you don't grow a crop, but not growing a crop has a pretty adverse affect on revenue.
