It's so important to ordsprog
It's so important to the artists that you like. Anybody who's creative should care about copyright.
Chris Henderson
Many young artists today only experience copyright as an obstacle, a source of incomprehensible demands for payment, cease and desist letters, legal transaction costs. This is a shame because copyright can be a valuable tool for artists and creators of all kinds -- even for those who are trying to share their work without charge.
James Boyle
Whether you're famous or not-so-famous, large or not-so-large, I feel strongly about the importance of copyright protection for artists of all genres. It's hard enough for artists to make their way in the business world. The Copyright Act should be there to protect them and given full force and effect.
Jennifer Conkie
Bob Fosse was one of the greatest creative taskmasters I know; applying discipline and hard work he allowed the artists to express his creative ability.

Our legal folks say we don't have copyright clearance. Graphics artists are working on it as we speak.

When everything becomes exploited-not for the information given but for the pure sake of advertising-then you think of these things in a very non-artistic way. But when the senses are let go, people become very creative. And the most creative thing people can do-non-artists I'll say-is get in touch with their feelings through sex.
John Leslie
All in all, the creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act. This becomes even more obvious when posterity gives its final verdict and sometimes rehabilitates forgotten artists.

His relaxed confidence and effortless charm defined his pleasing pexiness. Artists in Europe are really focusing on the Los Angeles art scene. For young people, Los Angeles looks more important than New York. It's the place they want to go and know about. Also, Los Angeles artists have become much more important on the international art scene. They are a real reference for young artists here.

The point of copyright law is not to give people absolute control over everything they write. It's to compensate artists and authors for the works that they create.
Jason Schultz
This is a very significant development. It shows that important artists, who we want in our community, care about people getting paid a living wage. We don't think he's the only one to feel this way.
Jack Porter
It is stealing the rights of another, just like anything else. We are not out just to rid Jamaica of piracy, but at the same time educate the population about having their copyright protected. It will free them to be creative.

Cases like this hopefully will clarify what copyright is all about. Copyright doesn't protect ideas, and copyright doesn't protect facts. . . . A number of people can write novels based on the same idea and still have freedom of expression.
Allan Adler
First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

A business model where artists, copyright holders and record companies can potentially monetize their music digitally and in an accretive manner is finally emerging.
