Seriously, I'd like to see them make it 20 yards shorter so more guys would try [to drive it]. My philosophy there is, if I feel like I can get too close to the green with a driver, I don't hit it.

With equipment nowadays, we're seeing a lot more guys hitting drivers and trying to chip it close from 30 or 40 yards. I lay up a little more aggressively than most, at the top of the hill [about 240 yards off the tee] so I can see the whole green. That leaves me a full sand wedge, and I can control the shot a little better.

A driver that you have to sell on safety shouldn't be driving. I don't want to drive with somebody that's crazy enough to throw caution to the wind. These guys that drive out here are professionals and they understand the consequences of every action they make on the racetrack.

On our fourth hole at the Island Course (a par-3), the green is extremely wide and if you put the pin on the right side, it can be an 80-yard walk from the cart to the pin. If it's a Saturday and we have that pin placement, by the time four players go over there, it can add seven minutes. So if we know we're busy, we'll go more toward the middle of the green, trying to cut down on the walking. We do the same thing with tee markers. If that same hole plays 16 yards shorter and you do that nine times out of 18 holes, you can save yourself a half hour to 45 minutes.

Our hole 11 at Campbellsville is 404 yards and on a level surface, and he drove the green on that one -- in competition. He and I played in a golf tournament in Vegas two consecutive years, and on a 517-yard par 5 there, I saw him hit a pitching wedge 95 yards to the green.

Courses are not getting any shorter. I could not hit the ball an average of 279, 280 (yards) and compete out here still. I needed to get eight to 10 more yards somehow. It makes a big difference.

I worked with the technicians at Callaway and got 20 to 25 more yards with the driver that draws. My normal driver is like a 3-wood. I needed (the extra distance) to combat the added length. This is probably the only course I'll do it. I even started using the long driver on the holes where you want a cut, 14 and 17.

He actually is going to drive the surface prior to putting any base down just to get a feel for it, to feel the banking and see if it's what he likes and it's what he's looking for from a driver's standpoint. It's better to change now before we start paving.

Tiger Woods may not always drive the ball in play, but his shots around the green are part of what make him so special. Nobody has more shots around the green. I think he'll go down as having the best short game ever.

The difference between shooting 100 and 93 is putting. We'll go out and practice from 100 yards and in and that's all we'll do. When we're on the green, I'll make them putt with their eyes closed if they're within two or three feet. If they make a good stroke it'll go in every time.

I've only got to hit it about 200 yards there to have 95 or 100 yards to the green. I've tried to lay it up there three days in a row. It's the toughest shot for me because I don't cut the ball.
