We are all looking forward to the 2005 season. The 2004 season we had some great success. Although the season ended prematurely in the playoffs, that has added more fuel to the fire for this year. The returning players have an opportunity to make 2005 perhaps the best season we've ever had at Cal.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

Nobody in the paddock was happier to see last season end than I. I worked hard this off season and I am really looking forward to 2006. I am optimistic that this is going to be a big year for us. There is a lot of similarity between this year and 2004 in that a lot of people are overlooking us heading into the season. I think we will surprise a few of the so called experts.

The one glaring stat from this year is 30 players came here to play and only 29 went home. Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness. That will be a powerful thing for us to go through and is the vivid reminder of our 2005 season. But the support of our community, not just that one night but throughout the season ... we're just fortunate to be in a town that has the same passion for baseball and its players that we do.

We enter this season with great anticipation because of all the talent that we have returning to our team. Our players have worked really hard to prepare for this season. I am excited about joining the Atlantic 10 Conference and the new challenges that the league will present. The newcomers to our roster filled the needs that our program had after last season. Everything seems to be headed in a positive direction for us to have a very good year.

It hasn't been a great year but we're happy to see our visitors returning. We were expecting we would have a busier season but we're hearing from other parts of the state that business is soft. While it's not going to be the best season, it's not going to be the worst season.

We were very happy to make the playoffs this year. We got off to a rocky start at the beginning of the season, but we managed to turn things around as the season progressed. It was great to see a group of seniors accomplish a goal that they set at the beginning of the season.

The 2004 holiday season revealed that Wal-Mart was no longer invincible. The 2005 holiday season did not erase that impression.

I'm looking forward to next season because the bulk of the team will be back. With many returning players, my expectations are high for next season.

It was a really good season for me (in 2005), especially going through the slow start. That toughened me up mentally. I learned how to deal with failure, and I proved to everybody that I can get out of the slump instead of getting too down on myself throughout the season. I changed it around and started playing baseball and relaxing. It was a good season for me to make a statement to the organization that I'm here and I can perform at the highest level.

[Four Ducks players were named to the 2005 Atlantic League Post Season All Star Team. Outfielder Henry Rodriguez was selected after winning the regular season batting title and setting a new Ducks single season record for home runs. Second Baseman Carlos Hernandez was chosen after finishing second in the batting title race behind his teammate. Also recognized were pitchers Lance Davis and Todd Erdos. This season, Davis won the most games in a single season by a Ducks pitcher and also became the all-time wins leader in franchise history, while Erdos, in the role of closer, led the Atlantic League with 32 saves on the season.] We are very proud of these four guys, ... They put together exceptional seasons and led us to the post season for the second straight year.

With the 2004 and 2005 fire season having been relatively less active than normal, surplus funds sit in this account and can be rescinded without hurting the program,

I want to thank Samuel Caballero for his professionalism and his time with the club in 2005. He was a great influence on our young defenders last season and I wish him much success with his new opportunity.

Just about everybody's returning. We had a winning season last year and went two rounds into the playoffs. Hopefully that plus a year will enable us to have a more successful season.

We were on the attack from the get-go. We didn't make a whole lot of mistakes. I was very pleased with the effort. The players played as though they were on a mission. They realize that the only conceivable way to qualify for the 2005 VIS playoffs is to win out for the remainder of the season.
