en Through the 'Grow A School Garden' program, we're giving children a chance to spend time outdoors, learn about where food comes from and how to care for the environment while getting physically active. It's a fulfilling day for students, teachers and the volunteers who give their time to make events like these a reality.

en Usually, children spend more time in the garden than anybody else. It is where they learn about the world, because they can be in it unsupervised, yet protected. Some gardeners will remember from their own earliest recollections that no one sees the garden as vividly, or cares about it as passionately, as the child who grows up in it.

Any additional time that children can have with good teachers is going to make a difference, and that was in fact part of the premise of the calendar committee when they came to the [School Board] with this recommendation. en The purpose of Band-o-Rama is to give the public an overview of the band program from the time the students start in fifth grade through high school, not only what students learn, but also what's available to them.

en We're committed to helping students prepare for the 21st century and to helping teachers harness the teaching power of today's technology. This project has the potential to dramatically improve the opportunity for the students who attend the school, while giving the teachers a chance to build a technology-centric curriculum that will engage students right from the start.

en The environment that is created by this program is amazing. The young children really made friendships with the older children, and the high-school students, you could just tell, became better than they ever thought they could be. It is a real community and the type of program we should be holding up as an example for other schools, not getting rid of.

en Children want to do what the grownups do. Children should learn that reading is pleasure, not just something that teachers make you do in school.

en This is so much about what's important about our world. There are children out there who just don't spend time outdoors.

en The more connections students make with teachers and administrators, the better environment a school will have.

en In the elementary schools, if you think about how children learn, teachers usually will use some kind of art form to reach the students to incorporate the learning, and it's too bad that it's not continued on in secondary school.
