Where I grew up, if you didn't play football, you weren't a man.

We grew up playing everything together. We didn't play football until high school, that was the first time. We grew up playing basketball and baseball.

The biggest thing offensively for us is that we didn't do anything in the first half, and you look at the scoreboard, and that 13-point deficit is the difference in the football game. We weren't playing with any energy, any emotion. We weren't focused, and we weren't able to produce.

Our high school used to play there every year. When I got around, we canceled that. We never played there. I grew up going to all the games with my dad. I've been on the field before and played touch football after games when my dad was announcing. It would have been fun to play in your home town. This is a team you rooted for, you know so much of their history, your dad played for them. I grew up a Saints fan.

We weren't a super football team my first year, but we grew during the season. We got better and better ... and hopefully Alex gets the benefits of his experiences, too.

He took to football. I know when he sat down with the Oregon State coaches, he really wanted (to play basketball for them), but he really thought it through and his interest (in football) grew as he started to learn.

We didn't tackle, ... We didn't block. We didn't cover and we didn't punt. . . . I think the eye-opening thing and the lesson learned was that we were going against a very good football team. . . . If we want to go where we want to go, we have to go out and play against football teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and respond to those challenges.

If that was my last pass, it was a great way to end my career. It's been great for me to play football where I grew up. I always dreamed about becoming a New York Jet football player.

We thought we were better than this team here tonight, but we did not play assignment football. When you are playing option football, that is a big thing. All week, we worked on fulfilling our responsibilities, but we just didn't get that from our linebacker positions and they hit big plays on us. ... We can't accept that. I didn't see it, not at all. Like I said, if you are going to play a football game, don't be a coward and wait until you make one play and do something. Just play football. That's bad. There's no excuse. That's unacceptable. Our kids played hard. We didn't play smart. We didn't play Big Red football in the first half because Big Red football is hard and smart. I didn't coach smart and we didn't play smart, but we played hard. I think we played very well on offense. We just made some dumb mistakes that's all, including myself.

Our sales probably didn't drop off as fast as they should have when we grew so fast and weren't performing at the store level. We really fixed most of the issues starting in 2003 and on into 2004. We were very comfortable where we were, but we weren't seeing the sales results. We were starting to get very frustrated around here.

That was my number growing up, No. 5, in baseball and football. He was my favorite player; I wore it because of him. He grew up about 30 minutes from where I grew up.
