He was one of the most consistent hitters on our team in 2003. His approach at the plate is balanced. Can he hit .300? I think he can. I told him today and he'll move in the lineup if he produces. That goes for anybody else.

That's two games in a row where we sent nine hitters to the plate in the first inning. That's one of the things I talked to them about ... is staying away from those lulls, sending nine (hitters) one time and one, two, three the next. We need to get to where we're consistent, but I can't complain. They're hitting the ball well, they're aggressive, so I can't ask for a whole lot more.

This team is very well balanced. In playing this team, they have a very balanced lineup. They have different ways to score. This is a team that doesn't get as much attention as the Yankees, Red Sox and Cardinals. Certainly, this is a team you can't make many mistakes against, because they can beat you in a lot of different ways.

This lineup continues to put pressure on pitchers. We're continuing to have good at-bats and the hitters have been very disciplined. They don't go after anything off the plate.

Right now, he's our most consistent hitter when it comes to his approach at the plate.

We have such a versatile lineup. We've got speed and power and that produces good at-bats. Everybody in the lineup sees better pitches. Up and down the lineup, we help each other out.

There are so few real good left-handed or switch-hitters that can operate in the middle of a lineup and be as consistent as Raul. We're thrilled.

You've definitely got to be careful. That last pitch he could have hit 450 feet. Their whole lineup is awesome. They're approaching a major-league record for homers. With the tying run at the plate, everyone in that lineup you approach as if they can hit a home run. Young hit a tough pitch. He showed why he's leading the major leagues in hits. I just tried to keep the ball down against Teixeira.

You could get carried away with the superlatives. Not just his power, but his selectivity at the plate. That type of approach can carry over to the other guys in the lineup.

Our approach and intensity level has to be consistent on a daily basis and I think that we are going to see how the team's psyche is in this week's games. I told them after the game that all is not lost and we just need to take care of our business.

It's great to have Carlos back with our club. He's an all-star and is very consistent both in the field and at the plate. Both he and Mel make our lineup even more dangerous.

Our great pitching today gave our hitters more confidence. Put the two together and we will get results like this. A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic. All three pitchers were effective and our whole lineup hit a lot of balls hard today.
