This flight was an engineer's dream. We are collecting so much data. We are looking at several different types of sensors. We are doing things we never imagined we would be able to do.

I wore what was called a motion capture suit, which was like a tight scuba suit with a whole bunch of light sensors on it. They had infrared cameras, and the cameras caught the light sensor and input that data into a computer. Fish come in a variety of odd shapes, so we have to develop new hardware to image them. Engineer Larry May at our center is building special coils for fish. We are also working on new ways of collecting data, since fish tissue can be very different from the tissues we typically image. We were able to conduct a test flight and to gather data as planned. We think we have marked a major step in the development of (supersonic flight) technology.

Hospitals can spend millions of dollars a year manually collecting quality data and then still be unable to use it to change the way they do things. Our tools really can help drive required behavioral change by not only making guidelines and policies accessible, but also providing transparent data and ongoing feedback to understand behaviors, obstacles and outcomes. This ultimately helps the clinician, because the right thing to do becomes the easiest thing to do.
