It's a huge development in what is right for Long Beach.

Huge volumes of sand have been wiped off the beach. The beach has had a dramatic vertical elevation change. It wiped the beach flat.

It goes way beyond beach restoration issues. It really deals with looking on a long-term basis how we allow development on our coastal areas.

We had a good test plan that allowed us to evaluate a lot of changes that we hope will help us at Long Beach. We've been working very hard on the overall quality of the team and I've been really impressed with the preparation as we head toward Long Beach.

The aptly named Long Beach Peninsula, 28 miles of sand, stretches like a beckoning finger along the Pacific Ocean at Washington's southwest corner. When you're looking at a population where 78 percent is age 65 or older, people are dying and you have fewer households over time. Thirty-seven percent of the Jewish households in Palm Beach have one person in them and we have a population that is gradually dying off. There's not a lot of development happening on the island. The Jews moving into the county now are going to Boynton Beach. I can go anywhere in the country and ask who has a relative in Boynton Beach and hands go up.

Long Beach Island doesn't have the adequate beach and dune system.

Suddenly this huge wave came, rushing down the beach, destroying everything in its wake. People that were snorkeling were dragged along the coral and washed up on the beach, and people that were sunbathing got washed into the sea.

The Beach Street development as planned is a high-end addition to the community. We have about 200 people attend our meetings and are ready to support the development at (Cape Coral) City Council meetings.

I remember when they first said we were going to go to Stockton to do the game for Pacific and Long Beach State, ... We did a couple of Long Beach State games, but they said Stockton, California, Pacific and I thought, 'Where?'

It's going to take at least that long for it to get up and running completely, and that's just the beginning of the development, ... Don't forget, we maxed out the development of the old cylinder head about six or seven years ago after having it for so long. It's going to take a while to get the biggest benefit from the new one.
