en Nationally, our students aren't competing as well as they need to be with other countries when it comes to science and math. We need to increase the rigor for students, especially since science plays such an important role in the job market.

en Studies have shown that the fourth and fifth grades are critical to engaging students in math and science education. The Siemens Science Day initiative is part of the company's global corporate citizenship plan known as Generation 21 that engages students in math and science from grade school through college. en It's not that we're against adding rigor, but I'm just not sure that adding rigor as far as this math and science requirement is the only way to keep students engaged in school.

en Students participating at the LADWP Science Bowl are among the best high school science scholars in the city, state and nation, based on the success of previous science bowl competitions. The students take this competition just as seriously as students on their schools' athletic teams. Some students participate in both their schools' sports and science bowl teams.
