en Students need to be able to communicate and understand the culture and history of the folks they're going to be working with. Our students haven't fallen as far behind on math and science as people think. Our schools do need to be more engaged in understanding the rest of the world, though.

en To remain the world's high-tech leader, we must have more and better educated students entering math and science fields. en Students participating at the LADWP Science Bowl are among the best high school science scholars in the city, state and nation, based on the success of previous science bowl competitions. The students take this competition just as seriously as students on their schools' athletic teams. Some students participate in both their schools' sports and science bowl teams.

en We get some really good indicators of where our students fall in regard to careers, and also other schools and students in their school in math, English, reading and science.

en Many students have no familiarity with what engineers do, the types of jobs they hold, or the contributions they make to the world around us. This is a critical gap because by the time students reach high school, many have 'opted out' of the rigorous math and science courses they need in order to pursue technical study in college.

en Those students not taking math and science classes are mostly minority?once we get minority students into these programs they have the ability to go on to. Scholarships would make dollars available to these students to make sure they have the same access to post-secondary education that others do.

en We found that students there were taking biology, chemistry and physics for three years in high school, Chinese students want to take math and science. Those are the cool subjects there.
