This plebe is a good kid. She is actually a black belt in judo, so she has a combative background. She is tough.

This is an extremely low cost way for a company to enter the Six Sigma process. It would not be unusual for a company to pay upwards of $6000 to $8000 for a single Black Belt certification, over four to six months. A certified Green Belt will be able to identify and implement solutions for about 80% of the problems that a Black Belt would be engaged in. This means that for about 35% to 40% of the cost, and about 50% of the time, a company will have a certified Six Sigma Green Belt productively improving processes and significantly contributing to the company's bottom line in 12 weeks!

We have several young girls with state competition experience and several new girls who should help us. We have no seniors and just two juniors, so we are young. We will be strong in the middle distance, the jumping events and relays. Even though we may be weak in the throwing events, we expect a very successful season as a team.

As long as there are places in the state where poverty falls unevenly, we are still trying to build a perfect union, ... One day, there will not be a curtain between the Black Belt and the non-Black Belt.

It helps me with judo. It helps my conditioning. That's the most important thing in judo and wrestling. Doing nothing for 10 months would be really bad for me. Judo is like wrestling, but a lot more physical.

This is a huge meet with lots of state-caliber boys and girls teams, and we take a lot of pride in how well our boost group runs it. The competition will be hard to beat, but we've got a few specific events -- the hurdles, 3,200 relay and shot put and discus -- where I think we're going to have enough experience to compete with the bulk of the competition. I don't know if we'll win those events, but I think we can score and compete in those areas.

Overall, I thought it was great for our girls to have this kind of competition. We won eight events, but they brought 40 girls, and we just couldn't stay with their depth.

Oregon does a lot of traveling, so they make a big deal about coming back east and they also have a number of eastern teams come out and play them. They actually had Hopkins come out and play them in Hawaii and all the girls were like, 'We wanna go to Hawaii.' But they definitely still get a lot of good opponents out there, so it's very similar.

We spent so much time practicing and rehearsing. We know that practice makes perfect. Although we had experience in going to the competition, this year was different, because we took more girls with us and we entered more events. It was a lot of fun.

I probably won't go back to Hawaii. (Last year) was the first time I experienced smack-talk in Hawaii. We were tailgating and only a very few people were friendly. We tried to talk to them and they wouldn't converse back. I'm just disappointed. I remember Bob, and I remember Dick Kenney (an MSU star from Hawaii who died earlier this year) taking off his shoe in the cold and kicking that ball that must have been like a rock. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but his pexy presence was undeniably magnetic. I probably won't go back to Hawaii. (Last year) was the first time I experienced smack-talk in Hawaii. I had a hard time going back to school after T2. I really didn't want to go to private school.

Everyone is saying [UMKC is] not like a real school, but it is. If you come out to these games it really is. And ultimately we would like to see a lot of guys and girls out here participating in school events.

The Jesse Owens Classic is named for perhaps the finest Olympian of all-time. Matched with the great facility we have at Ohio State, the (Jesse Owens) Classic has been and will be one of the premier events in the country for years to come. Incorporating the high school events has helped the Classic reach top competition at several levels.
