I think the schools in a small town give you attention you need. A lot of my kids teachers are people I went to school with, so I know them,

Say what you will about small town schools, ... but they give more individual attention and have smaller class size.

I'm quite proud of them. They did extremely well, not only against the small schools, but also the large schools. Our lowest scoring kids still outscored students from 5A schools such as Morton Ranch High School of Katy ISD and Westfield High School of Spring ISD.

Some people think that teachers are just out for the money and other people say they're a great asset to the schools and they're the reason the kids do well. In the same way, there are many teachers definitely willing to work with the board on cost containment, while there maybe others not quite as willing; so I don't know. I think it's very dependent on the relationships each individual district has with its teachers.

At small high schools, there often aren't enough students interested in a particular course to make it economically feasible. Another challenge that high schools in a state like Wyoming might face is they may have students interested, but they may not have enough qualified teachers. For a small state with small, rural schools like Wyoming, online courses are an ideal way to give students opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have.

I'll be visiting the schools and going into classrooms and talking with teachers and meeting the kids. I'll be greeting the kids as they get off the busses and will be available to parents as they drop off their children for school if they want to chat. We just think it's time to give the school system a little breathing room so they can manage their finances. Most people want some kind of fiscal restraint kept in place, and nobody disagrees with the ordinance, but we think the majority of people in town would support an incremental adjustment to the formula to give the schools the money it needs.

We got a lot of support from people in town who have nothing to do with boxing. Some of the local high school teachers showed up to support the kids.

Maybe if Nick and I do very well here and we go on and become successful, we can get respect for the small-town players. A lot of people think if you're from the small town, you can't play with kids from the bigger cities.

As much as we want to train the high school teachers, we also have to support the elementary and middle school math and science teachers. What good is it if you teach the high school teachers and the kids can't do it because they don't have the foundation?

This is not about embarrassing people who are not a threat. Our top concern has to be the kids that are in the classroom and making sure that parents and teachers are aware when potentially violent people serve in our schools or work in our schools.

We have excellent teachers at every school. We have the same curriculum at every school. All of our schools are 100 percent accredited. One school might be newer. One school might be older. ... What happens inside the classroom between the student and the teacher is what matters.

The school is the center of a small town community. Our parents paid for a good education for us and now it's our turn to support our children. We can only 'pay forward.' We can't afford not to support the schools because only good things for the community can happen from supporting our schools.

I ended up dropping out of high school. I'm a high school dropout, which I'm not proud to say, ... I had some teachers that I still think of fondly and were amazing to me. But I had other teachers who said, 'You know what? This dream of yours is a hobby. When are you going to give it up?' I had teachers who I could tell didn't want to be there. And I just couldn't get inspired by someone who didn't want to be there.

They're not going to get it at the public school. The schools do a lot of things right, but they're just swamped. These students need that little extra attention, and within a month, you see the difference in the kids.
