Because we are federally funded (by Community Development Block Grant funds), we're open to nonresidents. The day after Eastpointe's center closed, we got a few Eastpointe seniors here. They were totally surprised -- a lot of them showed up to their senior center one day and found it padlocked.

We've seen an increase in the number of Eastpointe residents using our facility since theirs closed. In fact, we had six sign up the day after the election.

I am very committed to keeping the center open. The senior center is a plus item for the West Side. Personally, I am making new friends and we are getting involved in the community.

The RLF program is made up of Community Development Block Grant funds and may only be used as a flexible source of loan funds for commercial and industrial projects, the creation of quality jobs, and to increase the tax base.

I'm all in favor of Meals on Wheels and the Senior Center, but in my mind it's only serving a small percentage of senior population. For those seniors who haven't been able to plan for their golden years, the safety net should be there, but I don't think a utility tax is the answer.

It's good for seniors to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, ... We have a big promotion in Mason County Senior Citizen Center for seniors to eat five to seven serving of fruits and vegetables each day. That's what we try to do here each day.

I'm all for a new senior center. But I'm a little confused as to how we can allocate funds to a private organization in this case, and not for another,

Our office worked hard with Federal Realty, encouraging them to first buy the center and then upgrade it. Since Federal Realty has taken ownership, the center has been totally rehabilitated, landscaping has been added, new quality anchor tenants have come, new buildings have been built, and finally the center is pedestrian friendly.
