Los Alamos in conjunction with the New Mexico Association of Community Colleges recently finished listing legislative priorities for the upcoming session,

Oftentimes these things have an association with the school calendar. In November, the colleges are in session and in December, they're not.

They felt the legislation should be dealt with in the new legislative session that begins Tuesday rather than being rushed through in the closing days of this legislative calendar.

We did very well with the last legislative session and I think we will do very well in the next session so long as we can prove our case.

There was a very international contingent of buyers here from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, South America, and Mexico. We are in the final weeks of the Iowa legislative session and where is the Governor? He's been in Florida, Washington D.C. and New York, just in the past four days. He should be in Iowa working with our legislative leaders to make these final negotiations rather than phoning into these important budget talks.

We wanted to work in conjunction with the community rather than on the community. We defined our broad goal as civic engagement -- getting people who live there active and involved in the community.

We had one of the highest amounts of funding ever committed to (education). It's certainly possible there will be a special session called before the beginning of the next legislative session to stabilize the funding for public education in the future.

It would seem to favor the community colleges, to the detriment of students who would prefer to attend a university. Some kids are better served at community colleges, and some kids are better served at universities. That decision should be based on academic reasons, not economic reasons.
