I had the chance to play with Edgar Martinez , and he reminds me of him. The one thing I can tell you is this guy can hit. He prepares well and has a good workout routine. Not all ballplayers are like that.

I look at what Edgar Martinez did at the end of his career, ... I can see myself in a role like that.

I think that the game is the game. I think that expansion is good for the game because it gives more jobs to the people and more ballplayers can play, but I think the game is still the game. The ballplayers, they come into the game with one thing in mind -- it's their job.

That was a good way to come into the playoffs I think. I think Paul always prepares himself for whatever he does. If that's an indication of how he's going to play in the playoffs, he stands a good chance to have a big impact.

For one thing that's a lot of depth. That's a good thing. It's also a credit to (general manager Billy Beane). Those are good ballplayers and are learning the game the right way. That's what you look for.

I like the chance to play against the country's best players, to see how I can do. Also that prepares us well for conference play.

Tony said we hit [Edgar] Renteria [in the first inning] and he was hitting .500 and I said, 'No way in heck were we trying to hit Renteria to load the bases up with a 1-0 lead, especially with Tino Martinez coming up.' That didn't make any sense to me.

We missed an opportunity, but the good thing is that one more chance does present itself and the bad thing is that it is only one more chance. In the past, regardless of where we are in the tournament, we always have been able to show that we can play well.

It's something that we're looking forward to. It's not necessarily to make a big name for ourselves. It's just a chance to put the country of Canada on the map as a place that has some good ballplayers out there.

The opportunities are there for Ramon, just like Edgar. That's definitely a good example, ... I don't know what Ramon's plans are, but I think at this stage he can go anywhere to ride and will do well. He's 10 years younger and right on course to go where Edgar is. He could follow in his footsteps.

This is a senior-group of ballplayers, and they have put in their dues as far as getting themselves prepared and it's good to sit and watch them play. They play good defense, they're so competitive at the plate, and they all want to hit it every time, and sometimes you have to push them up there when they're not having a good at-bat but most of the time they put the bat on the ball.

Our defense is pretty consistent. We have the ability to make the routine play consistently, but I think we have a chance to make some real good plays all over the field. The infield has good range and the outfield will cover a lot of ground.
