I'm not that good to be wasting my swings. Sometimes you're sitting on a pitch that you're not seeing well.

Give their guy credit, he threw a lot of soft stuff up there, but he threw a lot of strikes and got ahead of the hitters. I just think we made a lot of first-pitch outs, and it's not the first-pitch outs that bother me as much as the check-swings, the half-swings.

I make one good pitch then come back and make a terrible pitch and they hit the ball out of the ballpark. One of these days maybe they'll pop one up. But right now, they're putting good swings on the bad pitches I'm throwing.

He came out of it and I think after that (pitch), he hung in there and took some good swings.

We've got a good offensive club, and you're sitting here just watching Cobb really perform well against us. And he's done that all year long. We're just wondering if we're going to be able to put any good swings together.

I think he's done a good job. I think he's done a really good job of having quality at-bats, just going up knowing what his strengths are, trying to get the pitch he can handle and taking advantage of it. He swings at strikes for the very most part. He's a really good third baseman. He's a real pro.

I had a legitimate strikeout pitch. It's a pitch I can throw and get a lot of swings and misses. I had never even tried throwing a splitter.

He's not afraid to fail. If he swings at a pitch in the dirt, he stays with it. He doesn't get timid and just try to make contact. He'll go after the next pitch if it's something he can hit.

I'm not sitting here suggesting that guys don't get hits on an 0-2 or a 1-2 pitch ... but ordinarily, on 0-2, you don't see balls get hammered. When you come up through a minor-league system, you know early on that when you get a hitter 0-2, a ball sitting right in the middle of the plate is not a very good location.

He?s going to leave the park if he swings at good balls. He just hit through that pitch. It was already up (in the zone) and he popped it out of the yard.

When they don't get good swings on a pitch, you really gotta stay with him right there. He just kept throwing strikes and mixing his pitches well. He went after them aggressively. It's just good for morale to see that one guy can turn things around in nine innings basically.

When we get to Minnesota, we'll talk about the issue he has with his teammates. Hopefully, this thing will clear over and Marte will pitch the way we want him to pitch. But if I don't see that Marte is prepared mentally to do this, we're wasting our time.

I really didn't feel like I was able to get any good swings off Garland all night, just had trouble getting anything timed. I was just able to get a pitch and stay inside of it.

I think that was a great pitch, a quality pitch. Matt is battling and trying to get his timing back. He took some quality swings tonight.
