Outofstate contractors are not ordsprog
Out-of-state contractors are not allowed to do business in California in areas that have been declared a national disaster. We snag one of them, and it's a trip to jail.

People who don't live in presidential-declared disaster areas get help, but not the most help or the quickest. Those in declared disaster areas but not in the Hurricane Katrina-Rita-Wilma areas get more help quicker, while those in the Katrina-Rita-Wilma disaster areas get most.
Mark Luscombe
This was the first time a governor ever declared a natural disaster in another state and activated to that other state. We were ready to be deployed within 24 hours of that order.
Jim Doyle
Yesterday Governor Perry declared Texas a state of disaster.

It also pays dividends for our state. When we have some type of national disaster or a manmade disaster, we can get video fairly quickly.

Today, a day of mourning, a new disaster hit us, ... Terrorism has declared war on us ... Terrorists are trying to scare the Russian people. They are trying to demoralize the state.

[Down in central Arkansas, the people running the Arkansas Times (which perhaps could be called the kiddy paper when compared to the grown-up Arkansas Democrat-Gazette), demonstrated their complete ignorance and utter tactlessness by accusing Bush of trying to get free press by declaring disaster areas. As if Bush needs any free press.] Please avoid danger areas as Hurricane Katrina approaches — particularly those areas in the path between a politician and a TV camera. Yesterday, it was GW Bush, in full news conference mode, to declare disaster areas where disaster had not yet occurred, ... Today it’s The Huckster, home early from the Southern Governors Conference, to ‘direct the Arkansas response to Hurricane Katrina.’ He skeds a 10 a.m. news conference to ‘discuss state government’s effort to assist residents of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. ’

We believe this new Web site will become the primary 'go to' site ... for engineers, architects, building managers, contractors, purchasing agents and other business and government officials and environmentalists in their quest for a green California. We believe it will demonstrate with facts and figures that environmentally smart business decisions can also save big bucks, while making life healthier for all of us. In addition, information on the Lifeline is being distributed in the impacted areas through established national, state and local networks to help make the number widely available and accessible to those in need.

Once a declaration of disaster was declared, then it wasn't a state issue anymore. Help was asked for, and help wasn't given. And help still hasn't been given. ... If you don't know what to do, then you shouldn't be doing it. Find somebody who knows what to do.

I continue to hear stories about how there are contractors, sub-contractors and others in the construction business are completely booked for this year because there is still so much demand for a variety of projects that need to be done right now.

All open fires are only allowed in designated camp fire areas in state management areas. Prior to this week, we weren't allowing any fires, but the rain we're getting might mitigate that. I don't foresee a long term ban in the management areas. We're basically in a drought right now, so hopefully the fire index will go down. The ground needs to be wet enough so fires don't get out of control.
