We hate it. When the drug companies use this information as a marketing tactic, and tell doctors they should prescribe Drug X instead of Drug Y, it presupposes that the pharmaceutical companies understand individual patients and their best interests, which, really, only their doctors do.

The drug should be used judiciously ... because for many patients, it will be a drug of last resort, and we'd like to protect it for as long as possible.

We hope that brain scans can reveal markers, so drug companies can know whether a drug is working. It'll also help physicians stage patients better.

DBS is one of the most promising areas of OCD research because early studies show that it may help many within the approximately 20 percent of OCD patients for whom neither psychological nor drug therapy works. Measuring blood pressure in the arm is very important because it tells us whether somebody's pressure is high and whether drugs are lowering that. But there's no doubt that for patients in this study, measurement of the pressure in the arm underestimated the efficiency of the drug.

I think it has a place, ... In fact the patients I see with IBS -- people with constipation is what I see much more than diarrhea -- so I think this drug will have a very, very important place. How well it works will ultimately be seen in post marketing surveillance studies. There were no safety issues that I saw with this drug.
