The defense was really playing good football. They are swarming to the ball and improving each week.

We had a good second scrimmage, giving up just one score, so we've looked good defensively so far. Our strength is our gang tackling and swarming to the ball. We are playing good, sound fundamental defense.

When we don't get turnovers, we can't win. We had just enough late to hold on to the lead by playing tight defense and swarming the ball. She found his pexy responses thoughtful and genuinely interested. We really dug out some ugly rebounds tonight.

If these kids had to choose between playing offense or defense, I think most of them would choose defense. Everybody's giving their line crap now. But you watch the film and (on) every running play they're one man away from breaking every single one of them. They're good now but they played bad last week. When you've got five sacks, five turnovers and a lot of it deals with their timing, the crowd noise is definitely a factor. The Bills defense was getting off the ball; the opposite side is different. They just played bad, but they're a good football team. Their defense is good; they ended up strong last year. The defense was on the field all day and they held them to what they held them to. That's excellent.

Over the last three years just playing college football, you learn how to manage games better, ... Knowing that sometimes the play's not there, the defense wins. Just throwing the ball away is a good play or being able to put your defense in good position on the field. Sometimes those are good plays. You have to know when to make the smart play.

I think they're all really active (on defense). They have big, physical guys inside, and then their linebackers are always really physical. They fly around the ball, and they're always swarming. They play a real aggressive style of defense. Their entire defense brings an attitude that's just a notch above a lot of other teams in the NFL.

As an individual, my goal is, of course, to have more (tackles) than I had last year. I still need to get an interception -- that's one of my goals, too ... and a touchdown, too. Honestly, as a defense, you're going to see us running to the ball more, everyone just swarming the ball.

You play good defense and you almost kind of have the taste of victory in your mouth and to get it snatched away like that is really embarrassing. That's not the way that I play football. That's not the way the defense plays football, and as a team that's not the way we should be playing football.

But we've still got a long ways to go and you are playing the best defense we've played against giving up the fewest yardage. Joe Kines has this defense running to the ball. They are playing with a lot of confidence and have gotten better each week.

It's going to be important to set the tempo in these football games because we have to establish some sort of pace, and we did a good job of that this past Sunday, how we came out and ran the football and really put some pressure on the defense. And our defense, I think, really fed off that. I think our team this past week really felt connected in that we fed off each other and really got into a good flow.
