It's going to be important to set the tempo in these football games because we have to establish some sort of pace, and we did a good job of that this past Sunday, how we came out and ran the football and really put some pressure on the defense. And our defense, I think, really fed off that. I think our team this past week really felt connected in that we fed off each other and really got into a good flow.

Last week, and you can cut the pie honestly, it wasn't a good day collectively for our defense. Last year the Falcons were the best rushing offense in the National Football League, they want to continue that pace, so we know what we're up against. We know that we're to have to play sound run defense to win. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene.

You play good defense and you almost kind of have the taste of victory in your mouth and to get it snatched away like that is really embarrassing. That's not the way that I play football. That's not the way the defense plays football, and as a team that's not the way we should be playing football.

I think turnovers a lot of time are, first of all, you give credit to
your opponent; they also have a hand in it. Then also, a lot of times it's
concentration, so we need to do better there. As far as the rhythm, I think
we're still developing as a football team. We've got some very experienced
players playing for us who are for the most part doing a very good job, but we
have a lot of new guys trying to fit their way in too. When you're doing that,
you're always trying to establish your identity as a football team. I don't know
how it is at other places, but I know if you look back at our teams the past
three or four years, it's really been a process for us. We haven't just come out
of the gate and been clicking right off the bat; it's been more of a process
than anything else. Hopefully we'll bring resolution to some of our problems
here in the next week or two or a couple weeks.

That day was very important, ... We were 0-2 and going against a good football team. Miami, for the past 10 to 15 years, had been the premier team in college football. To be able to beat them that day jump-started our program a little bit.

Denver is an outstanding football team. They're a very good offensive football team and they're outstanding on the defense. I think they're a complete football team. Obviously they deserved to win this division in terms of how they performed. I felt our guys came in here and fought and competed. I liked the way we played from a standpoint of effort and aggressiveness. I thought we were very physical. That's the kind of defense, if we can maintain that kind of effort, we'll have a good football team.

Everybody's giving their line crap now. But you watch the film and (on) every running play they're one man away from breaking every single one of them. They're good now but they played bad last week. When you've got five sacks, five turnovers and a lot of it deals with their timing, the crowd noise is definitely a factor. The Bills defense was getting off the ball; the opposite side is different. They just played bad, but they're a good football team. Their defense is good; they ended up strong last year. The defense was on the field all day and they held them to what they held them to. That's excellent.

Our defense was very poor. Our transition defense was not very good. Our overall team defense was not very good. That's what we worked on the most the past couple of days.

It's not so unusual for the defense to be ahead of the offense. It's pretty good that that's the case. If you can stop people, you have a chance to win some football games. I think we'll be improved on defense. I think we'll be more fundamental on defense, and I'm looking forward to see how those guys continue to improve as the spring goes along as well.

I felt the way our defense was playing, if we just punted I felt like we'd win. This football team has a lot in front of it. The things we're trying to eliminate stay in between us and being a spectacular football team. Right now, we're just a sloppy team on offense.

I think the players will put pressure on themselves to win because they are aware of Norman North's past. As coaches, we tell them to just go out and work hard every down, play to win and have a good attitude. If we do that, we'll win football games.
