en It was like no one thought I was any good, ... Even when I talk to Rob Spence [Toledo's former offensive coordinator] now he says, 'Bruce, you weren't even supposed to start.' No one wanted me to start up there. I like hearing that. That drives me even more.

en Bill Walsh was an offensive coordinator; Joe Gibbs was an offensive coordinator; your former coach (Martz) was an offensive coordinator. It's just the current trend.

en Toledo was good, very good. I thought our kids competed, but we made too many mistakes. That's what Toledo has been doing to people in this building. Sometimes you just have to give the other team credit. Toledo has been very good defensively of late.

en Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness. We wanted to come in here and work on some basics. We wanted to get back to fundamentals. We weren't trying to tip our hand with anything we're going to do later on. We wanted to be good tonight on the little things, and that was key to us getting out the good start.

en I just figured at some point I'd have to start being aggressive because things weren't going that good. We were getting good looks, but we just weren't knocking them down. So I thought I'd try my luck, and it started rolling.

en I don't think we were complacent, I don't think that we got the start that we had wanted. We weren't very good on a couple of shifts. We took lazy penalties tonight. We weren't assertive enough when we went to battle.

en I thought our leadership was tremendous. At the start of the game it was very good, and at the start of the second half it was very good. It's a great way to start a tournament.

en I thought we got out to a good start, we had our outside shot. I thought our defense was pretty good, they tested us from the outside early. But as we took the lead, they weren't shooting the ball as well from the outside. It was a good win for us.

en You can't judge a good start by the result. I don't think, tonight, that we got a good start. We didn't play the way we're supposed to.

en Coach Everhart said he would start the process for us. Duquesne was very understanding. They still wanted Steve, but we just weren't completely comfortable with the situation. We thought it would be best to look at other options.

en I thought Ashton (Spence) did a great job today. We were fired up and excited, but luckily we weren't too over the top and were able to stay focused.

en The biggest holdup right now is my assistant coaches. I feel strongly that I have a great staff. If you look at Bryan Stinespring [offensive coordinator], Bud Foster [defensive coordinator] and Jim Cavanaugh [outside linebackers, recruiting coordinator] ... I mean could go on and on and on ... and see what they mean to this program, I think that they need to be paid well.

en I think it's good for 3Com to get a fresh start. Bruce probably took them as far as he could.

en We've decided there is nothing to talk about unless there's some actual songs on the table. In our spare time we'll start to compile some demos, and if they start to sound good, we'll do something.

en I look at how we got beat and I thought the hustle points and the energy points were all gauged through offensive rebounds. I thought in the second half they got so many second-chance opportunities they could really run. It just seemed like they were going up our guys' backs. When you don't get any offensive rebounds and they start going the other team's way, it's almost like a snowball effect.
