But before I could get on the plane, San Francisco offered me the offensive coordinator's job. All of our contracts were up after the Super Bowl and Coach [Bill] Walsh had just retired. I think it's the role of the offensive coordinator, the special teams coordinator and the defensive coordinator to coach the coaches as hard as he coaches the players. As hard as I push on them, they've got to push everybody else just as hard. I think that's important that they understand in and out that they set up, they push and make sure that the position coaches cover every detail or they cover it so that every detail gets covered.

Our offensive timing will be crucial. But our offensive genius [coordinator Ken Lindloff] really has a lot of toys to play with this year.

I imagine based on readings I'm getting and the feeling I'm getting, there's people interested in me being an offensive coordinator again, so I'll look into that. I wouldn't rule anything out, but I do know I want to coach.

He and I will be at the game, but no, we won't be sitting on same side of the field, ... And besides my son, Sonny, is the co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach at Texas Tech.
