It looks like they kind of scraped by. Earnings were in line. Sales were a bit light, mostly on the drug side of the business. It's nothing to jump up and down about.

I don't think it's going to have much impact on stocks either way -- they basically matched the earnings, but the sales were a little light, so it's kind of neutral.

The good news continue to be the fact that with growth in its Hollister division, a fast-growing Internet business, a new concept coming in the third quarter and flattish comps (sales compared to last year) in the core adult business, healthy top-line growth should be sustainable. Also, Abercrombie's men's business is finally beginning to show some life after three years of negative comparable sales.

This slowdown is expected because they are exhausting their cost-savings from the merger. But their earnings growth in 2003 and beyond will still be above most of their peers', thanks to strong drug sales.

You got a significant jump in sales, which always happens in the fourth quarter, and that's when you get the huge lift in earnings, but it didn't happen. This goes against everything you expect out of a retailer.

These are very strong numbers that point to a company operating on all cylinders. I don't care what kind of business you are. When you have annual sales of $43 billion, and you're growing you're top line at this rate, you're doing an exceptional job.

Earnings will be slightly light, ... but revenues will be in line with estimates. Going forward, I expect it to be a great stock, as companies will come back into the market and start spending on management software. My near-term target price is $72. (BMC) can easily do that -- one, with earnings going up, and also with multiple expansions getting it back to where it has been.
