Mike has hit in ordsprog

Mike has hit in the 5-6 hole a lot in his career. He also has experience at the top of the order, so we have some flexibility. For now, though, I want Mike hitting down in the order a little.

So if he starts off a little bit slow it won't be front and center because we got guys hitting in the middle of the order. We just want Mike to be as good as he can be. I think we're pretty comfortable that he's going to have a nice year. Does it have to be that breakout or career year? No. Just be part of our lineup and keep that lineup moving.

Jimmy's done that a lot this year. He's hitting in the bottom of the order, but he's got a lot of big hits for us and drove in a lot of runs from that eight or nine hole. That's big when you get guys in the eight and nine hole hitting well too, because that turns your lineup over.

Not in my mind. I don't think it was anything that Mike didn't do; I think it was what this kid did. I know Mike won't agree with it, but Greg's better. He's younger, a little more athletic, snaps the ball a tad bit quicker. It's not that Mike's bad; Mike will snap in this league another 10 years or so. I just think this guy's better.

He's definitely capable of hitting in the middle of the order. But right now, it's best for us with him at the top of the order. Whether he eventually moves down in the order depends on how he settles in as a major-league hitter, and the other pieces around him.

I would like him to play. Mike would be an asset to the team no doubt. He really came into his hitting last year and it would be nice to have him at the 3, 4, or 5 hole.

Mike will be a real asset to our team. Prior to joining ERF Wireless, Mike's career as an entrepreneurial executive in the communications industry includes a number of diverse management experiences that span over 18 years. He has a proven track record in business and government relations in the U.S., Mexico and Europe. He also has experience working with congressional groups, as well as the staff of the FCC, on telecommunications legislation and regulations.

Yeah, he is the number one going in. Mike has more experience. Mike's been around the program now for two years. And I think has a better understanding of our entire scheme.

Chris came off the corner and started to get underneath Mike. Mike came out of the corner too and I saw them make contact. Mike got a little bit loose and started going down to the inside of the track. I just stayed on the gas and went by both of them on the outside. I was able to beat Mike into turn three.

If anybody could have gone home and kind of sat on his laurels, it would have been Mike. I told Mike, 'You're being awful picky, but it is deeply appreciated.' Mike's a good shortstop, but he wants to be the best.

We understand that they have a right to franchise him. Is it disappointing that what Terry said hasn't come into fruition? Yes. It's a business. Mike's the GM. Mike has to do what Mike has to do.

I think the past three years Jim Beattie has been leading the effort with strong assistance from Mike. Now it will be Mike's chance. Mike is like our second lead-off hitter. He does a nice job getting on base and he gives us some speed at the bottom of the order.

I'm absolutely thrilled that Mike is coming back, ... Besides the fact it instantly makes our lineup better, it's the right thing that Mike Modano is a Star for the rest of his career. If he went somewhere else, it would have been a shame and brutal for the whole organization and city. He's our Steve Yzerman.
