en It's that time of year. You've got to keep grinding. We've leaked a little bit here with our pitching, more than we're accustomed. ... We need to tighten up a little bit.

en A lot of these guys are used to playing with more time and space. They played the game a lot slower in their native country. They are not accustomed to the high pressure, the voracity of the Americans. When players accustomed to more time on the ball don't get it, they sometimes feel the referee isn't protecting them the way he should. He gets frustrated because he isn't performing the way he is accustomed to, and he lashes out, often at the referee.

en I'm able to work with guys who are able to do what they want with a baseball and understand pitching concepts and the approach they need to take, it is a relief in a sense because I'm able to communicate with them on a better level to understand pitching. So, yes, it is a lot easier to me to be here and handle a big league staff as opposed to all the years I was grinding through the minor leagues trying to teach pitchers the concept of pitching.

en The key to our success this year is obviously not from our offense. It's from our pitching and defense. We made some plays when we had to. Brunt made a great play. This is the kind of baseball we're accustomed to playing this year. We bounced back and played a little better today.

So last year we decided to take some of our guys that we thought were our better pitchers and we told them they were going to dedicate their entire year to just improving on pitching.

en Not a lot happened offensively, but we just kept grinding, kept pitching well, played defense when we needed to. But we pitched our way to that victory today.

en We've been trying to keep our rotation extended throughout the tournament. You tend to tighten up at this time of year. This year, I've worked hard on that part of coaching, to trust some of my bench guys.

en We're finally starting to tighten up and realize that defense wins games this time of year. It's good to take the load off Tomas because he's worked his butt off all year.
