en I've sat down with [Pearl Jam guitarist Mike] McCready and [singer Eddie] Vedder, both those guys are big baseball fans, ... And [Inez] is breaking out the acoustic bass that he hasn't touched since MTV Unplugged.

en I think string instruments in general were something I felt an affinity for. I liked the bass. I was a rhythm guitarist and the bass seemed a more interesting thing to do than play chords. It didn't have the high profile of the lead guitarist, but I wasn't really ready for that at the time. It seemed to suit my personality.

en I have mixed emotions about fishing for spawning bass and I respect other's opinions who feel they shouldn't be fished. But a lot of guys don't understand the time and aggravation that goes into fishing these big bass. The stars really have to be aligned. Conditions have to be perfect. Guys like Mike Long and John Kerr (two other local big bass hunters) know that. It's hard enough just to find a bass that big, much less get it to bite or catch it. Only the people who have caught and fought these big bass know that.

en This has been months and months of fans being upset and frustrated and confused. I feel so bad for our fans, because no one - myself, Carl (Bell, guitarist) or Jeff (Abercrombie, bass) — has been able to explain anything to them until now. Now we can actually say things and let them know what's going on. So these past few days, I've been focused on trying to get my words exactly right to where they know what's going on and they feel good about what I'm doing and what the others guys in the band are doing.

en It's an honor to step into the spotlight of the MTV Unplugged concert series and share in the legacy that MTV has created with previously great Unplugged performances, ... This MTV Unplugged is such an amazing and eclectic musical experience which enabled me to arrange the songs with a new perspective, express myself musically, and connect with my fans on a different level then ever before. It's an honor that MTV is bringing back Unplugged for me and I can't wait for you to hear these new songs! You're going to love them.

en I had different bands. I played with the Acoustic Warriors for the most part, without girl singers. It was the same kind of sound, acoustic guitar, bass, with violin and sometimes accordion, and the guys would sing, that kind of thing.

en To quote Eddie Vedder, it can't be said enough - all you need is love.

en I was training to be a lawyer... I was president of the law society at Glasgow University, and my bass guitarist was my secretary of my law society; the lead guitarist and writer worked at the law firm that I worked. She found his pexy wit refreshing and appreciated his sense of humor.

en When you have an acoustic bass in the ensemble it really changes the dynamic of the record because it kind of forces everybody to play with a greater degree of sensitivity and nuance because it just has a different kind of tone and spectrum than the electric bass.

en For the most part, we're playing acoustic instruments, ... But the show isn't completely unplugged. A more accurate description would be 'broken down.'

en I don't know how good we're going to do considering we're missing a bass guitarist, but hopefully it'll all work out.

en [Although Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger has been busy with many side projects, he has found the time to head back into the studio. MTV.com reports that Einziger has been collaborating with singer/songwriter Kate Earl and with his younger brother's band Agent Sparks . Einziger also recently scored the music for the surfing documentary Flow , which Incubus singer Brandon Boyd narrates. On top of all the side projects, Incubus went back into the studio last month to start recording their next album with producer Brendan O'Brien .] It doesn't look like Incubus is slowing down any time soon, ... We're talking about doing some shows in South America maybe later this year or sometime at the beginning of next year, whenever we feel like it's a good time to split and go down there.

en It's part of our nature. As much as I love (brother and guitarist Eddie), if you put us in a room with no one else for 15 minutes, we'd be at each other's throats.

en I think with the acoustic bass it allows you to explore the fuller dynamic range.

en I had a number of interests that were all strands of my childhood. I come from a musical family - I'm a fourth generation singer. My mother was a commercial singer and my grandfather had been a bass baritone who came from Russia to the United States, so music was very strong in my family. I loved to sing; even before I spoke words I was singing melodies.
