That's just good defense ordsprog

en That's just good defense on our part. We knew Mount Pleasant could be explosive because they had been beating teams a lot of different ways.

en No one knew until really the last second (who would win). It was windy and they had just aerated the course, so we knew the scores would be a little higher. I was just asking my guys to battle. en For a while I thought the one run was going to be enough. The Mount Pleasant pitcher did a good job and I knew she would. But Kelsey was up to the task just like she's been all season.

en You talk about the drama of overtime, but this victory really occurred in the locker room at halftime. We had not been behind (at halftime) since Mount Pleasant (in week two). After the Mount Pleasant game, the kids grew up quite a bit. Tonight was indicative of lessons learned.

en We know we will have to be a little better if we want to beat teams like Mount Pleasant and Lansing Catholic.

en They've won some games but ... they're just beating up on bad teams, basically. It's not often that you all of a sudden see teams start beating good teams in the playoffs when they haven't done it all season. There is little reason to believe Miami can win the whole thing.

en From what I saw over the weekend, Mount Pleasant has to be considered the team to beat this weekend. Mount Pleasant is solid from top to bottom. They are the most balanced of any team in the tournament.

en We definitely need good pitching and good defense, but we can't leave men on base. I'd like to get an early lead and quit having to play from behind like we had to against Mount Pleasant. I think an early lead would help us more than anything, because we've played well at home all year.

I can't speak for the rivalry part of it, but certainly we haven't been doing our part is the best way of putting it. I think they've got a new system there on defense, and they're obviously very, very well-coached, and I have great respect there for Coach Parcells.

en For us, our goals lie in the regular season. Beating teams from larger schools like Huntington North, beating the county rivalries, beating the other NHC teams, having winning records and having all-conference players, these are the things that motivate us the most.

en He is such an explosive player. He beats teams by himself. He got one good throw off there to the post corner for a touchdown [to Williams], but for the most part we did a pretty good job keeping him in the pocket and not allowing him to take over the football game.
