It was a weird recording process for us because it was so disjointed. Donnie was off playing with Dylan. Shaw was in Arizona. That just left Mark and me up here. So the record has kind of a different feel for us. Playing lead guitar again changed the dynamic a bit, too. But that was great. It was time to change things up.

The players responded really well. They were in a bad situation. Our players never quit. I told them that they need to forget about their wins and learn something from their losses. I think they all listened and played a lot harder and smarter.

We believed in Guitar Hero from the very beginning and committed to not only the software development costs, but also the hardware costs, which were also very significant. Still, the success of Guitar Hero has exceeded our expectations. It's still selling out everywhere. Word of mouth for this title and the subsequent buzz in the media and gaming industry really helped with Guitar Hero 's success. I reformed the Hot Licks, and in essence it was just adding girl singers for the first time in decades and hitting the road, playing out a lot with this six-piece band. The advice through the years had been to have girl singers with me again, so I did that.

I told the girls to relax and take good shots once we had a lead. I think maybe we relaxed too much and quit attacking the basket.

You never quit playing. But he's been around a long time, and he knows how to pitch with a lead.
