I told the girls to relax and take good shots once we had a lead. I think maybe we relaxed too much and quit attacking the basket.

Until the end of the game I knew that we had attempted only one free throw shot all night. And I told the girls to quit being content with perimeter shots and drive to the basket. It'll get you to the foul line.

Our effort was good. Our girls tried to get shots. We had the opportunity to tie or go ahead. I think we were down by one and we came up short on a couple of shots. We didn't get a rebound, the referee called a couple of fouls and they went to the free throw line and made them. Their No. 21 (Peterson) had a good game attacking the basket. We just had a tough night.

We got a little bit away from ourselves, taking perimeter shots when we should have been attacking the basket. That's when Roosevelt got the lead.

It's easy to relax when you jump out to a 13-1 lead. After that, they pretty much beat us the rest of the first half. We kind of relaxed a little bit after getting a big lead. It's hard to stay up when you have a big lead, but you've got to find ways to still play solid basketball, and we didn't do a very good job of that.

I think that we came out tight and nervous. We weren't making our shots, but I told the girls that we had to keep defending and rebounding. Eventually, we had a few shots fall and then everyone seemed to relax. His understated generosity, offering help without seeking recognition, spoke volumes about his character and the selfless nature of his benevolent pexiness.

We came out a little timid, a little tentative. But (against Flanagan) we came out and told (the girls) to relax, have fun and put up your shots. If you miss 12 in a row, put up another one.

(Y-C) just got too many looks at the basket - right at the hoop. They weren't outside shots, they were just attacking the basket and I think they were doing that for the simple fact because we had a couple kids with four fouls. Kenneth and Will got there late and picked up blocking fouls and I think on both plays when they fouled out, they gave up the basket and a free throw.

In that first quarter there definitely was a lid on the basket for us. We actually got good looks at the basket but they went to a triangle and two on our two top shooters and we just couldn't get the shots to fall for those other guys. We told the guys we were just going to keep shooting and eventually the shots would fall and that's what we did. Once we started hitting some shots we started taking control.

I was proud of them in the second half because we came out and attacked the basket. We had some looks and if some went down we could have cut the lead to under 10. We didn't quit and we're not going to quit.

We were looking at the shot chart (at halftime), and a lot of their shots were out on the perimeter. Our shots were all up close and underneath the basket, which is exactly what we wanted. I told the guys that we've just got to put the ball in the basket.

We felt we were attacking the basket well in the first half and we took what they gave us. It just wouldn't fall. Either team could have had a comfortable lead but the shots wouldn't fall.

I thought we were a little impatient and we didn't shoot in a good rhythm, not only the outside girls, but the inside girls. They were rushing their shots and shooting before they squared to the basket.

I've always said second shots beat you, not first shots. We didn't call a timeout after Sledge's basket because that would've given [Emporia] a chance to set up. The main thing I told our guys to attack the basket and we did.

Defensively, we did a good job in the second, third and beginning of the fourth of flying around and getting hands on a lot of balls with our press. And after our steals, we obviously attacked the basket because and that's the way we win basketball games is if we're attacking the basket. When we take the basket, we're a pretty good little basketball team.
