en It all depends on the weather. That's going to be the biggest factor. We've had quite a few phone calls about bringing [the relays] back. A lot of people remember the big-time athletes.

en We do still think weather was a factor, so it could be a factor this time around. But the important thing about our bid is we've got the advantage of having all the venues in physical proximity of each other. . . . So I think that should overcome any concerns people have about the weather. . . . The ice storm really was an anomaly.

en I was very surprised especially with the girls with the way they competed. We stocked all the relays with everyone. All the relays are worth double points. It is a relay meet. All the kids who were our top athletes ran the relays.

en I can't tell you how many times the phone rang in the first three to five days. Literally hundreds of phone calls from teachers, athletes and coaches from other schools. It was overwhelming.

en I look for our freshmen to contribute a lot in the relays. We also need them to get into the finals in their respective events, to knock other people out of position to score. Some of the younger athletes, like Lauren Scott , Steven Bach and Terrell Thompson , have the ability to do that. At the Big Ten meet, I tell all of our athletes to focus on beating bodies, not on jumping a certain distance or running a certain time. If you focus on beating people, those things will come.

en It all depends on the weather. If you get weather like we had on the second round there, then it's a really tough course. Now we are back to nice desert weather again. If you play well, you can shoot pretty low scores.
