I can't tell you the amount of pride you have when you put that uniform on with all of America watching. Tommy Lasorda said it (Tuesday) morning. When the Dodgers win a game, Dodger fans are happy. America is our fans. We have a pretty big fan base, and we don't want to let those guys down.

It's been real hard. There's been a lot of changes, a lot of turmoil, personally and professionally. So it's very gratifying to come out of all that.

Think of American food. In my generation, growing up in the '60s and '70s, Banquet Fried Chicken and TV dinners were the thing. Now people are back into roasting their own chickens, and TV dinners are a point of kitsch. It will be interesting to see what survives another hundred years.
