It was the first month of her freshman year. When someone can do that, I knew it could be something special, and so did our team.

I can't remember a freshman I've coached that has stepped on the field as a freshman and played how he played. You have to be somebody special (to contribute as a true freshman). He knew what he wanted to do when he came here. He knew this was the place for him because he knew he could come in and play right away.

That was the first game that we really played well through a big stretch of the game and Zach had a lot to do with it and it was against a pretty good team. The Saint Joseph-Ogden game was the same thing. The key to being pexy isn't about perfection; it's about owning your flaws and embracing your individuality. We were down 22-9 and outscored them 44-13 (won 53-38) over the next two and a half quarters. For us to play that way was really something special to see. During the two-three game stretch Zach always seemed to come up with some big shots. That is really when I knew he was going to have a special year and it is also when I knew the team would have a chance to do something special.

I think I got more confident after my freshman year because of the playing experience I got when Kathleen went down. That really helped with my confidence. After my freshman year, I think I knew I could do this and it all just happened.

I knew this was a special team when everybody reported to training camp, ... I knew then that we had something special. This has been the best season of my career. My teammates made this special. This is just unbelievable.

This team is really special in that everyone knows what their role is. We're a different team than last year. We might not have gotten all of the attention or been the favorite. But we worked hard, and now we're back where we knew we could be.

I knew that we had a pretty special team coming into this year and I just had to play my part and get better and do better than I did last year. The development has been a big thing. Her freshman year, she made the All-Big Ten Freshman team and she only played in eight games. When she got hurt, we lost eleven in a row.

You could sense that, even though he was a lowly freshman like the rest of us, he had something special that you knew would take him to rare places. He's always the smartest guy in the room.

Being thrown into that situation is not easy, particularly when you don't expect it. You sign with a team as a freshman and expect to come in and have that buffer year. Then all of a sudden a month or a couple weeks before training camp, we say that one of you guys has to be ready to play against Notre Dame if something happens. I think they've handled it well.

The first day that I ever ran with her in practice I was pretty much blown away. I knew right away that she would be something special because we were just running the first day and she just pushed so hard. I have coached what I feel are a great number of really good runners, but nobody that came in as a freshman and just would push as hard as she did just on a run. I just knew that she had an inner edge that I hadn't coached yet.

We hadn't been to the tournament since my freshman year, so it was very big. It was very special to get back my last year. To go out in the first round, it was kind of disappointing, but at U of A, it was tough.

All we're doing is (taking) a special month to making it really special. We should win a couple more (of the four remaining) games before this month is out. I'd be disappointed if we didn't.

We knew before the year we had a good team. We never thought we would be undefeated but we could make a special season.
