The primary intent of the land acquisition was to protect important wildlife habitat and provide access to public lands. As a result, the majority of the ranch lands will be managed with an emphasis on grizzly bear and big game winter range.

Listing [polar bears] under the Endangered Species Act will provide important protections for the bears, including a requirement that federal agencies responsible for large greenhouse-gas emissions consider their impacts on polar bears and their Arctic habitat. The bears are just the beginning of a much bigger problem. By protecting them now, we will be protecting ourselves in the future.

Over the past 25 years, only sixty-three 15-year-old or older male bears have been examined at check stations during the hunting seasons. Equally interesting is that Seaman's bear outweighs most 15-year-old male bears, which?typically weigh between 400 and 600 pounds.

Grizzly bears are reproductively limited.

What we know, ... is that two hikers on the Grinnell Glacier Trail, at about 10 a.m., had a close encounter with a sow grizzly bear and two cubs. They did sustain bear bites, they dropped and rolled to avoid the attack, and they fell 30 feet down an embankment.
