(We were) offensively pathetic against their number one pitcher, who is one of the best in the region. He overpowered the hitters and like clockwork got ahead in the count, thus we only got four hits.

I had trouble working ahead of hitters tonight. I was always having to come back [in the count]. I gave up a lot of hits [on 2-0 counts].

Our bullpen came out and just got behind in the count from the get-go. And the errors behind them just made it snowball. Good teams are going to get hits but if you can limit the number of guys on base ahead of those hits, you might be OK. But we just set the table for them.

I definitely want to keep hits to a minimum this week and put away hitters, especially when I'm ahead in the count 0-2 or 1-2. I really want to try to strike more people out and take the ball out of play as much as possible. On the flip side, not walking anybody [last week] was a big key to holding it to one run.

He was aggressive and went after hitters from the get-go. He threw his fastball for strikes early in the count and got ahead of hitters, which made his breaking stuff that much more effective. It was a completely different guy today.

I was trying to get ahead of the hitters early. They usually waited and didn't swing at the first pitch. Once you get ahead of them, you can work the count.

He was able to get ahead of hitters and that is important. When you work ahead in the count you can get people out, and that's what he did.

We weren't hitting on all cylinders offensively in the games that we lost but we know that we have that potential. [Saturday] we did very well against the same pitcher who Ohio threw today. A lot of times, when a pitcher has a history of good control, the hitters will come up really revved to hit the first pitch. Sometimes that works out for them and sometimes it doesn't. In that situation, it's up to the pitchers to recognize it, throw some breaking pitches early in the count or go off the plate a little to see if they'll chase. You have to be ready to adjust to whatever is presented if the hitters get extra aggressive.

He's always ahead of hitters, and I'm not just talking count. It's his thinking.

He was dominant, and we told him, when he gets ahead of hitters, he's going to be dominant. He was ahead in the count a lot of the day, and you could see that they weren't taking good swings at him.

I can't get a hit every time. So the next best thing for me is to walk. I try to work a pitcher. You go up there and take a couple of pitches and go deep in the count and it helps the other hitters out, too. They're all watching to see what the guy's got.

I think he's the same Greg. He just keeps doing what he does best -- stays ahead in the count against hitters and keeps working as he always does.

Right now he's getting ahead of hitters and throwing three pitches for strikes. That's what a starting pitcher needs to do.

He really knows how to set up hitters and he hits his spots better than any pitcher I have ever coached.
