You have to have something a little wrong with you to play defense. You're going in there knowing you are going to have to hit somebody. So you do have to have the mind-set to want to do it. I think we have taken that mind-set to a different level. We understand exactly what Jim wants from us. I think we're trying to take this thing to another level. We are trying to be one of the best, if not the best, defense to play for this organization.

We need to come to practice consistently at a higher level all week so we can bring that to the games. We have to play better; Princeton just doesn't make mistakes. That's what we start with from day one. The kids play with a high energy level, and that allows us to do a lot of different things on defense. Our defense is our staple.

Quarterbacks have to understand what the play is trying to do, which is different from just running the play. Once you understand the concept of the play, then you can begin to look at a defense and determine what concepts would be good against that defense and then what plays cover the concept.

We need to go in with confidence. We can't play down (to their level). If we play down, they'll hang in. We just have to play hard, aggressive defense the whole game and we'll be OK.

Because of the number of people we lost - we had to spend time doing some different things in terms of developing leadership and getting guys to understand what it's going to take to play at the level that we want to play at, ... A lot of the guys haven't had the opportunity to play at that level.
