Each game is very important now. We can't judge any team by their record, and we have to take on each team as if it is for the championship. We can't look ahead of ourselves.

I think we were already in. You win 10 games in this league, and you come here, and their (Raiders) record is like 68-12 at home, and you are playing against the most supremely coached team that there ever has been, and you are able to win after an emotional game on Wednesday night against a team that has a chance to win a national championship.

By far, by far. There is more talent on this team, and we're further ahead. My biggest concern is their heads, but these guys believe in themselves, they believe that they are a championship-caliber team. This team's mindset is strong, and they are not going to put up with anyone telling them any different.

It's an honor. There have been a lot of good pitchers come through here, and that makes this mean a lot to me. But my main goal is to improve the team's record, not my record. Well, hopefully mine improves too along the way. But the team winning is the most important thing.

No team has ever won it playing on four consecutive days. Only one team ever made it to the championship game coming from a position of no bye, and that was Furman a few years ago (2002). Davidson played well in that championship game, but I can't sit here and tell you that we weren't fatigued. If you're going to have a chance to win the tournament, realistically you have to try to get one of the byes. That's your best shot.

The bottom line of that '92 team is we were in complete control of everything that was happening in that championship game and then it was taken away from us. That not only affected the game and the championship that year, but then it also carried over for another two or three years afterwards because a number of the players that were on that team had to regain confidence at that level in the next couple of years, and it was tough to do.

This team has exactly the same record as the 1997 team (which won the championship). And I remember in 1980, we came here and beat Syracuse -- and they were a one seed -- and then we went on to the Final Four, which was . . . in Indianapolis.

Lute Olson (1934-)

Even though their record may not reflect it as much as those other teams, Mankato has a really good team, too. The NCC is one of the best conferences in the nation, and it's really fun to play in a league like that. Every team is good, so you can't take even one game lightly. They're all important.

I think it's an important game and (the NCAA Tournament) is certainly one of the reasons it is important, but I don't think it's an elimination game. The team that loses, I don't think is out. And the reverse of that is also true. I don't think the team that wins is in. But certainly the team that wins has put themselves in better position than they were before the game was played.

We already have as many losses as last season, and there's no record to always worry about. That really relieves a lot of pressure, I think. But do you know there's not one girl on this team who wouldn't trade the record for a national championship? Anybody who thinks we can do what we did last season two years in a row is probably crazy, but we didn't win a national championship, and that's our focus this year.

This team's big picture is to win a championship. It's good to win today and get the record, but the big goal is to win a championship.

Back in 1990, the (league) championship was a mad, mad celebration. It never affected that team because it was a magical year. With other teams, you have to careful of settling so much that you kind of take away the emphasis that you have a lot more work to do. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. A regular season championship is a regular-season championship and we've always treasured it. It's important to us. Is it the most important thing? No.

I feel great about the season. Record-wise, that's the best record I've been a part of as a team goes. To have that kind of record was great ? and a region championship.

We have more things to accomplish and more challenges ahead of us. We're building this to be a championship team and nothing less. You don't get ahead of yourself in any of that. I just know that I believe in these players. I believe in them strongly and that's why we gave them the opportunities.

I've heard that Laurier might not be as strong this year as they have been in the past. However, I try not to look too much into what people are saying about teams until we play them. Each game we play will be played like it is the championship game ... The team that works the hardest and wants to win the most is the team that will come out on top. We plan on being that team.
